How do I take photos of a concert?

I do a lot of band photography as a hobby and I think that I am getting really good at it. There is a big band coming to town and I always see photographers behind the barricades. How do I become one of those photographers?

  1. Build a strong portfolio of your concert work. * Show it to the venue promoter and ask them to hire you to shoot for the event. * Add some editorial images to your portfolio and then show it to your local newspaper and get them to hire you. What your goal is, is to get a venue "press-pass" from the promoter or press credentials from a news organization and the hope the photo editor will assign you to cover the concert event.
  2. You need a press card. I doubt you can get a job with your local paper, but maybe you can get one with your school paper, or a local "shopper." As a last resort, you could make up your own media outlet and try to make a convincing looking press card with Microsoft Publisher or something. Google "Press Card" on Google Images to see what they look like.
