travelling without a car in houston?

I'm flying into Hobby Airport and need a ride to my destination within the city. What is the best way to do this? taxi? bus?

  1. You would probably want to take a taxi. The bus stops in Houston are not that great. If you are staying for few days, I would suggest you rent a car. Road signs are very easy to follow, but the traffic can get crazy at times. But you definitely need a car in Houston, it's a big city.
  2. Actually rental car would be your best bet. Overall, it would probably be cheaper than taking a taxi everywhere. But, of course, that would be dependent on how comfortable you are with driving in city traffic. If you are not comfortable with driving yourself, then a taxi would do well for you. Houston does have a light rail system and buses, but those may not have routes that would be going to where you want to go. But, since they are much cheaper to utilize, it's definitely worth checking out to see if one of those would work out for you. They should have the info of schedules & routes available in the airport. Houston is pretty spread out, so some mode of transportation is usually a must! Enjoy your visit to Houston!
  3. DO NOT TAKE THE BUS! Rent a car or take a taxi.
  4. Taxis tend to be pretty expensive around here. I take the bus a lot during the week just so I don't have to put extra wear on my car and spend a ton on gas (which you will be doing if you rent a car and do a lot of driving around town). If you're styaing in a hotel, especially one downtown, they should have a complimentary shuttle that will pick you up. Once you're downtown, you can go anywhere within the downtown business district for $6 by cab.
  5. Taxi. Unless you're on a bus route that goes to Hobby, you'll be one more than one transfer. Our bus system is pretty comprehensive, but a city this size (600 square miles) makes it difficult to go from point to point unless it is a major location (downtown, galleria, that kind of thing).
  6. It all depends on what you plan to do and how many days you'll be in town. If you are coming in for a seminar, then take a taxi to and from the airport to the hotel where the seminar is held. If you are coming in for multi business type stops within the city or a few days vacation, then renting a car would be your best option if you have a good sense of direction and can easily make heads or tails out of a map. You can rent a car for $185.00/week plus gas. If that's not an option, then chose a hotel on the light rail path and stick to visiting areas on the route. What ever you decide, welcome to our city! Oh, and DON't take the bus.
  7. TAXI to rent a car do not ride bus..some stop in bad neighborhoods and you will sit there in danger waiting for transfer!!
  8. Taxi, if you're just going to your destination. Rent a car if you're going to be here more than a day..
