I'm looking to open the ultimate hobby store?
I want to make my hobby shop have things people actually do for hobbies. So far our inventory is models, paints, comic books, rpg's, and buy and sell video games. What are some other things I should carry? What are some good ideas to generate business? Any ideas are welcome. I'm in a southern Ontario Canada:)

- If you're in California, add details to your business 'cause I wanna see haha. Anyways, I've been to a few hobby stores and video games were never a part of them. So you have the upper hand adding that in there. I say just make sure the inventory has a wide variety of games. If you carry models, do RC cars and other various mobile machines go in that category? If not, you might want to try that. And have a small supply of motors (mine was the simple motor with the rod spinning) because I needed one for a project. Something that might help you is when you start and a customer asks for something you don't have, you should take note of it. Maybe if the item is questioned enough, it might mean it's time to buy it. You know? I wish you the best of luck, and I hope I was of some help.
- Alot of hobby stores are generating good business by opening up an Ebay store as well along with their physical store. Basic cost for an ebay store is about $15.
- You guys up there have a TV channel that is RC I have seen it see what is popular
- Are you gonna have baseball cards?the motorized air planes are fun! is this strictly a guys' hobbie shop? holders for collecting would be good...coin collection holders, card collection, picture holders, comic book covers, baseball square boxes.
- You've got a lot of good ideas. But one thing: a lot of people will come ONCE for a certain item, but if you don't know a lot about that type of item, they won't be back. Take model trains for instance. THe shopkeepers had better be able to carry on a conversation about model trains and know their stuff or else the train guys won't be back. And you wouldn't really even know which trains to stock if you don't know the market. So sell what you know, and do a great job at it. You don't want to have a ton of square footage dedicated to stuff you don't know anything about.
