What is the difference between a hobby and an obsession?

I am wondering what are your thoughts on this question? I am involved in community theater and I enjoy musicals and show music. My family thinks I am obsessed with it. I believe that a hobby becomes an obession when a person devotes all off their money to the hobby to the point where they fall into debt. I am not going that far, but my family are not theater people and not that creative, so maybe that's why they respond they way that they do.

1. my hobbies are kinda like urs but slightly different and they've now become my obsession, music is my world. when you get too focus on what it is that you really like to do and keep doing it we get attached to it and that's when obsession comes in.
2. Hobby is what you enjoy doing. Obsession is when it becomes your life and thats all you do.
3. A hobby you do in your spare time because you enjoy it. An obsession is engaging in your 'hobby' to the point where you interrupt your normal life, snub your friends and family for it.
4. Good question! I think the differance is that an obsession starts taking from other areas of your life that otherwise would remain the same.
