  1. It depends on what the hobby is...
  2. I've read various times that people with hobbies are happier and healthier. I would find some statistic or research to verify that and start with that. Either that or a personal approach, like getting into stamp collecting because your grandfather...you get the idea.
  3. Don't start the essay by stating your hobby. Give a long, descriptive narrative about your hobby like this for running as a hobby: Hot and sweaty. My heart is pounding. My breath is short. One foot in front of the other - it seems like an eternity. How much longer can I go on? etc.... you get the idea
  4. Start by describing the hobby as you're doing it... Make the descriptions very detailed, include your reactions in between. If you can keep the hobby name hidden, meaning, you don't exactly say it until the end of your introduction, it'll sound even better. Here's a quick example, just to help this be clear- Looking 30 feet away, it is as if he's the giant that holds the key to my freedom. I am stuck here until he lets me free. I shift, holding the bat steady, pause, a sign, he positions himself, leans back and throws. I know that throw, it's a fastball, it's like a fly coming at me, I react and as the crowd cheers, I have to let the bat go and run. Run until I am once again held back by the ball. It is this kind of feeling that keeps me wanting for more. When I strike out, it's not a feeling of loss, but more of a way to get better the next time around. It's baseball that keeps me busy. I just made this one up off the top of my head, but I hope you get what I mean. Hope this helped. Good luck.
  5. ah, the introduction. that is probably the hardest and longest part to write-- for it is the one that will attract your readers. and you are writing about hobbies. well, there are certainly a number of ways as to how to start compositions. there is descriptive which is describing either the hobby itself or other things related to it (that is how you do it, blah blah). there is also stacatto-- the use of successive words. (e.g. mother theresa. queen elizabeth. bill clinton. garfield. These are the some of my collections... blah, blah) there is also compare and contrast wherein you compare your hobby with other hobbies, enumerating the adv and disadv. then there is also the punch lead! a striking sentence used as an introduction. (e.g. George W. Bush is dead. Or so we thought.) you know there are a number of other ways you can start your composition. just dont be afraid to explore and try each of them. and it also helps to revise and revise and revise! just go on, you are write on track! :)
  6. Maybe GOOGLE famous collections or hobbies and find an interesting factoid or statistic. Also a good tip I learned years ago is to just write the rest of the essay 1st. It takes a lot of the heat off.Do u have a hobby?....How about... Do you have a hobby? I asked 20 people today and would you believe that very few of them could tell me of a hobby that interests them? Our lifestyles are becoming so fast-paced that many don't take the time to do something fun for themselves. Also, years ago before television and the Net people had a plethora of interests.People relished books a lot more.Children played a variety of bored games....blah blah blah.
