Crazy Hobbies

My older sis and I live together. How do I address her need for constant attention?

My sis is 42 and I am 23. We're both recently divorced and moved in together to help each other out. My sister loves to be the center of attention, where I am a more private secluded person. Recently my new boyfriend was over to pick me up so we could get some parts for his muscle car (a hobby he and I both enjoy). My sister had just gotten out of the shower and was barely wrapped up in a towel and decided to come stand in the kitchen and talk to us. My boyfriend was clearly uncomfortable with this... as was I. I didn't know what to say! I was in total shock that she would even go that far to be noticed! I don't want to hurt her feelings or cause any major conflict cause I know she's going through alot, but wow this is pretty extreme. I don't mind her usual habits of being the center of attention: changing conversation subjects to her liking, inviting herself to things, always trying to get me to talk about my daily business or plans, etc. What do I do?

  1. Next time that happens (plan this in advance), your boyfriend should excuse himself and wait for you out in his car. After he leaves the room tell her that what she did is inappropriate and makes everyone uncomfortable. People will only push you as far as you allow them to.
  2. Talk to her about it...tell her that you and your boyfriend were both uncomfortable about it and would appreciate it if next time she was more covered up.
  3. Next time if she does it again, say to your boyfriend "Why don't U go wait out for me? I forgot something." And then tell your sister that she didn't have to go so overboard for attention because its innaporpriate and doesn't make anyone want to come back if they are uncomfortable.
