Crazy Hobbies

ok we`ve all seen the new symbol but is Microsofts new Vista any good ?

It looks like its quite costly, and there seem to be many different versions. But is it worth spending big money on? Ive already upgraded my Ram (1.5 gig) and "Media Center" seems to run well now. But should I forsake my trusty XP for Vista ? Are there any issues I need to be aware of ? Or should I bury my head in the sand and stick to what I know? I use messengers mostly when I`m online and Use Photoshop for my digital photos (my hobby). occasionally I surf aimlessly, but not much. I tend to visit the same sites over and over. Is it worth me spending my inadequate income, on a flashy new operating system?

  1. Not at this stage. I would avoid upgrading until either: (a) Your existing system is no longer supported (i.e. security updates are not provided) or (b) You need to run software that requires Windows Vista (or newer) to run
  2. Hi, I would hold on until all the service packs come out, also the lower end of Vista is very poor and the top end is very good, just like XP it has problems that will get ironed out by MS engineers/programmers, a big problem with Vista is the capability of software that runs OK on XP.
  3. hi there if you go into microsofts site theres a link for windows vista and if you download it it scans your computer and lets you know what version of vista you would benefit from - the things that might not work with vista are your printer and anything else you need drivers for - maybe sound and graphics but the vista scan will tell you whether you can update the drivers or not - hope this helps - we were told by a guy in pcworld to wait till the sp2 came out for vista - good luck
  4. I would say no, however at the moment my desktop is on vista, which is great and I wouldn't go back to XP at all, it is very good. however, when i first got it, there was No USB driver present so that caused some problems. Give it a few months, i still won't put my laptop on vista.
  5. Depends on who you ask this. Hollywood, music industry and Microsoft will want you to use Vista. FSF and its patrons will want you to not use it. If you are too used to Windows, Microsoft will eventually make you use Vista and give it the place that XP is at today. Otherwise, you should look at www.goodbye-microsoft.com for a better choice.
  6. WINDOWS VISTA IS EXCELLENT!!! i upgraded on my sony vaio laptop from xp, i got all the drivers from sony (free) and had no problems. i have the home premium. i am not lucky, i just know what i am doing. the people on here who say it's rubbish or got faults don't know what they are talking about. they don't understand it all as they either novices or to lazy to do the work and want it all done for them. take no notice of them people and go ahead and upgrade
  7. i would'nt reccommend going to vista ever just d/l ubuntu linux for free and get the best operating system ever made once you get used to it. and it does'nt require you to buy a brand new computer to run it on.
  8. Vista has the same problems that where around when XP was new compatability problems with hardware and software but As microsoft has not yet decided to abandon XP, with a new service pack on its way in the not so distant future. says alot about the reliability of the all new vista. i would stick to what you know for now
