convince parents to let me be a dj?
Im almost 16, and really want to be a mobile dj. i've been interested in music and lighting all my life basically, and have been doing small gigs for no pay(like off my ipod) for my block party and stuff like that. i have spent the last few weeks researching, and have decided what system to buy and stuff. total cost will be around $1100, but will probably be cheaper if i am able to bargain with the people at guitar center. my parents think it will be a waste of money and take up my social life. any advice to convince them to let me do it? i have that kind of money available. i will only me interested in doing this as a side job/hobby for now. maybe a gig or 2 a month, more in the summer. HELP!!!! i do have a job, but this is a passion of mine. i have the money to start it

- I think your parents should let you be who you want to be. And should encourage you to strive and achieve any goals that you make for yourself (that don't physically harm you or anyone else). Art is a talent and a skill that starts when you are very young, it's something you are born to do. I think for a good argument you should try to show your parents how this is a positive thing. The best way to get what you want from your parents is to tell it to them like it is, while being as mature as possible. I can't believe you told them you only want to do it that often and they are freaking out about it!! anyways parents are parents, and they can be nuts sometimes, so expect the unexpected and be prepared to defend you point calmly. - Believe in your dreams...Do NOT disrespect your parents they're just trying to protect you. However you must realize that they already have their lives, you're still in the process of creating yours. Don't press them too much...Maybe one of these gigs you play you may be outstanding and they may end up being pleased with your actions... All the best... Never lose hope or faith in what you love.
