Crazy Hobbies

How can I cancel expensive gym membership when...?

...when I only have couple of choices. You see, I signed a contract with expensive gym (the reason I did that was stupid, because at the time I felt very bad about my recent breakup and thought that new hobby such as rock climbing can ease my pain - very wrong :) ). The gym is far away from my apartment and frankly I don't want to go there at all. Bascially, I signed a contact for 1 year. There are four ways that I can cancel the membership: 1)You relocate to a location that is 25 miles away from the Sports Center. 2)You have a medical condition in which a doctor will not allow you to work out for at least 6 months. 3)In the event of death 4) According to New York State law, you have the right to cancel and receive a full refund during the first three days of your membership. After the three days have elapsed, your membership is in effect for a minimum of twelve paid months. How can I fake a move for example or a doctors note? Maybe some other option? Thank you I am willing to pay the cancellation fee of 175 dollars. The thing is, this fee is only paid in the event of those 4 times of cancellation. I guess even when you die, they take out 175 dollars :). Stupid. So if I go to my doctor, this won't be a problem of getting a letter?

  1. simply go to a doctor and tell him/her you have migraines and you need a letter to get out of your gym membership
  2. well im trying the same thing at bally i have a 2 yr contract and nolonger have the $$$ but i asked and they said i could pay a fine like 100.00 its better then what it will turn out to if i keep staying with them so save ur cash and pay up so you could get out tell them you dont work anymore and have no cash anyways pay them so they are gonna have to find a solution for you !!!
  3. Tell them you are diabetic. They may not even ask for a doctors note. I am diabetic and I use that excuse for EVERYTHING and it usually works!
  4. Same thing happened to me. I eventually sucked it up and paid the fees and a percentage of the balance after they sent some very mean letters. I had even moved to a different state and they said I had to pay off a percentage of the entire cost, which was more than if I had kept paying off the next few months. Either you're gonna have to break a leg or move, but still expect to have to pay cancellation fees.
