A perfect 40th Birthday present???

My older and only sister is turning 40, she's 11 years older than me and through out the years she has pampered me like there's no tomorrow. Every birthday or special occasions such as graduations she has spent a lot of money on me, for example she gave me a $2,500 watch for my graduation. My budget is only $1000, and I want to get her something special. She lives in LA so she has the LA life style. A watch is out of the question because I have checked and anything that she would like is out of my budget. I have also thought of high end designer purses like Gucci and LV, but is a purse something I wanna give her on her big 4- 0? No spa day either, she does that on a regular basis herself, so it won't be too special. No jewelery either because she already has enough. More about her: She's a total girly girl who loves to dress up and make herself up. As for her line of job, she's the director of marketing for a medical imaging center. No particular sports or hobbies. Any unique Ideas? That's exactly what I do not want to hear... I will be there for her birthday and it's not about the size of money I'm spending... obviously I too make enough for me to be spending it on her, every person has a budget and mine is 1G. So please no sentimental comments, our love doesn't measure with no amount of money in the world. I just want an outside of the box idea for a change, so far the trip sounds good.

  1. A weekend in Vegas or Hawaii!
  2. Obviously you love your sister very much, and admire and look up to her, and it's clear she has very similar feelings about you. So, IT'S NOT ABOUT THE MONEY! Plus she is ahead of you in personal, and career development by 11 years, so I hope you can cut yourself a little slack & not try to compete with her on the size and value of the gifts. You said she lives in LA, so I get the impression you do not. If you two live far apart, I'll bet one thing she would like on her b'day would be to spend it with her little sis. So I think it would be perfect if you took the $1G, and buy a plane ticket to LA and be with her when she hits the big FOUR OH!
  3. You should plan a day together. Even if you do the spa day, hair and nails like she always does. There is nothing more fun than spending the day with your sister. Especially if you have a grand to blow. You can go to the best restaurant, and just hang out together.
  4. This is tough. Take her to one of the high quality Sushi/Japanese (They call them Ryotei.) restaurants in Los Angeles, they have several that are very expensive. A good meal at one of these for 2 people can get up to around $500 pretty quickly. Would that work?
