- Hm, interesting hobby. I've built my own first PC, but that was it because price wise it is very difficult to break even. Now, don't get me wrong - it is a very good experience and help marinating PCs for yourself and your friends. As for the sources: there are books that tell you how to build your own computer (http://www.pcmech.com/byopc/). Get one from a local library or just buy it (keep in mind that they become obsolete very quickly). Read it carefully at least once - it is a good education. After that all you will have to do is maintain and update your skills (by keeping up with the latests hardware/software releases). And then just get into building one PC for yourself because nothing can replace the actual experience. It is useful to have some general engineering and computer science background to being able to troubleshoot some of the problems (for example: how overheated CPU can affect the speed or how much power your box is needed). Good luck. PS: if you really want a really useful PC-related hobby, get into building/modifying/installing/maintaining Linux on PC hardware. It requires much more skills that not many people have.
- I'm not so sure about computers but then there is a site to buy good computer parts with tons of sales. www.newegg.com
