what do i need to build my own r/c car?

i've been looking around tower hobbies.com but im a little bewildered as far as to what i need to buy. i used to be really into r/c but never built my own and want to get back into it. i'd like to go with gas, but if electric's a better value that'd be cool too.

  1. Get a rtr (ready to race). You need a plug wrench and i suggest buying a Traxxas,i have the onroad nitro Traxxas 4-tec 3.3 tires are hard to keep on it,when i bought i went through Tower hobbies all together it came to just over $400,i had to buy the quik charger,7.2 battery pack for the ez start and AA batterys for the transmiter, cause it came with 4 AA for the servos,i had gas already so i didn't need that.I have that one,a Mugun Seika,Ofna Ultra MBX PRO,HPI rtr rs4 and a 710 Serpent,oh yeah i'm into it.
  2. Philip screw driver needle nose pliers lock tight e-xacto knife depending on the body paint the kits come Farly well equipped with what you need to get running you will need (nitro ,nitro fuel glow stater maybe electric starter and a battery charger ) (electric ,battery pack charger ) and for both a radio you know tower dose sell combos that come with everything you need to roll
  3. You will need a few small screwdrivers, hex drivers, pliers, CA glue (aka superglue), x-acto knife, lexan scissors (for trimming the body), polycarbonate paint, radio system with servos, and either ESC/motor/battery/charger or engine/fuel/plug wrench/glow starter, and a starter box if you're a hardcore racer. There just aren't that many kits anymore. You would definitely do well with ANY traxxas RTR vehicle. If you race or bash hard, you will break it enough to have completely dissassembled it several times anyway. I have had good experiences racing RTR vehicles and kits. Don't take our word for it, go down to your local hobby shop and talk to the owner and his customers. Even if you buy mail order, you will end up getting replacement parts from him (if you can).
