How far is Hobby Airport from IAH (Houston International Airport)? Is it worth it to find a cheaper flight to arrive there rather than IAH if my family lives in Richmond/Rosenberg area? (Hobby might be a farther drive to them than IAH, and they may not know where Hobby is located, exactly.) I'd like to know the mileage from IAH, and whether it is closer or farther to Richmond/Rosenberg than is IAH. Also, does anyone know the address to the airport so I can Mapquest® it and send the info to my family there who will pick me, in case I do go that route? Thanks. I'm buying my tickets now.
Are there any parking GARAGES near Houston Hobby Airport? I'm looking for a multi-level parking garage near Hobby Airport. (I'm planning on leaving my car there for a few months, and i'd feel better about it if it was 1. inside a garage, and 2. higher than ground level. I know Dollar offered this service, but they will be discontinuing their parking service in March. I need parking through may. Let me know! PS. leaving it with a friend or family is not an option; due to my profession, none of my coworkers/friends are in houston any longer than I am. Also, Storing it outside of the airport is not cheaper...$100-125 a month vs. $50-55 a month

Does anyone prefer these airports in such areas (Houston, Miami, Dallas, etc.) over one airport? Does anyone prefer these airports over one? Like for example, Fort Lauderdale over Miami International, Dallas Love Field over DFW, Oakland or San Jose over SFO, Houston Hobby over Intercontinental, Chicago Midway over O'Hare as well as many other alternative airports that are a lot less hectic than some busy airports? If you vacationers, tourist, and/or business travelers traveled from/to such airports, do you agree and why?
Starting out: Sports pilot or private pilot license? I live in SW Florida, near a general aviation airport. We have fantastic winters, where VFR would apply for more than half the year. I'm just strapped for the cash, since this would be a hobby, not a career. I've only logged about 1 hour in a Cessna 172 (as a surprise gift), but I can't get it out of my head! Just looking for insight if I get my bankroll in order. I envy all you guys and girls in the sky! Thanks!

WHAT is with these illegals???? ANOTHER death by another illegal!!!? Sept. 22, 2006, 7:41PM Slain officer missed suspect's gun in search By MELANIE MARKLEY, JENNIFER LEAHY and ROSANNA RUIZ Copyright 2006 Houston Chronicle The Houston police officer who was gunned down by a suspect Thursday after a routine traffic stop apparently missed the man's weapon in a pat-down search, Capt. Dale Brown told reporters today. Juan Leonardo Quintero, a 32-year-old illegal immigrant, has been charged with capital murder in the shooting death of Houston Police Officer Rodney Johnson. Brown said Quintero apparently was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of his arrest. Brown said that Quintero had a criminal history from 1995 to 1999, convicted for DWI, failure to stop and give information and indecency with a child. His driver's license was suspended and he was deported to Mexico by immigration officials in 1999, Brown said. Quintero has been working for a landscaping company in the Deer Park area and was driving a company Ford double-cab pickup when Johnson stopped him for speeding, Brown said. Quintero, who apparently in the pickup with a co-worker and the two daughters of his common-law wife, was traveling 50 miles per hour in a 30-mile-per-hour zone, he said. He had picked up the two girls from school and was taking them home, he said. Johnson decided to arrest Quintero because he did not have any identification, Brown said. Although Johnson patted him down before handcuffing him, he apparently missed the 9-mm handgun he concealed under his waistband, he said. Although Quintero was handcuffed behind his back, Brown said he apparently manipulated his handcuffed hands under his legs to the front of his body so he could fire his weapon. His hands were again behind his back when officers arrived, he said. The suspect also fired at a wrecker driver who had been called to the scene by Johnson at the time of the arrest. The wrecker driver had spotted Johnson in apparent distress in the front seat of the car and was approaching the police car when the shot was fired. He retreated until officers arrived. His wife, Theresa Quintero, said he has expressed concern about immigration officials and whether he should return to Mexico. Theresa Quintero said in an interview today at their home near Hobby Airport that the couple has been married since 1997. HPD's Brown said records reflect no arrests for the suspect since 1999, but he said officers were still researching records. Chief Harold Hurtt defended his policy against enforcing immigration laws, saying the situation points to the need for stronger enforcement at the border since Quintero had been deported. ``If the government would fulfill their responsibility of protecting the border, we probably would not be standing here today,'' Hurtt said. A Harris County prosecutor said in court this morning that, while seated in the back seat, the suspect pulled a 9 mm handgun from his waistband and shot Johnson in the face. The officer was able to push an emergency response button, alerting dispatch of a problem. When other police arrived at the scene, Quintero remained in the back seat with the gun in his hand, the prosecutor said. Police found bullet casings inside the car. Quintero kept his head down while waiting to be called before the judge. During a brief hearing, he answered "Yes'' when asked whether he understood the charge against him. Quintero has been charged with capital murder in the 248th District Court, said HPD spokesman John Cannon. Cannon said the suspect gave "a full confession" to the shooting. A source familiar with the scene said Johnson was shot four times through the plastic shield separating the front and rear seats. Johnson managed to push his emergency button before collapsing. The 12-year veteran of the department was taken to Ben Taub General Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The suspect reportedly struggled as officers tried to move him to a different vehicle. "They finally got him in the other car, but he was scratching and fighting and acting crazy, like he could win in a fight like that," said Clara Rodriguez, who lives nearby. Johnson, 40, was the first HPD officer killed in more than two years. "He was very personable," Hurtt said. "We will miss one of our true soldiers in Rodney Johnson." At least a dozen law enforcement vehicles cordoned off a large area at Randolph and Braniff where the light bar atop Johnson's patrol car continued to flash long after the shooting. Temporary spotlights illuminated the scene into the evening as evidence technicians scoured the area. The owner of a nearby machine shop was called to the scene because bullets apparently pierced the wall of his building and investigators needed to get inside. Before the suspect was taken to HPD headquarters, he was stripped of his clothes, which were placed in evidence bags, and dressed in a white jumpsuit. He was then taken downtown in the second of three patrol cars that left the scene shortly after 7 p.m. 'It just breaks my heart' As news of Johnson's death spread, police officers gathered in small groups but said little. One HPD sergeant walked to a patrol car, took out his cell phone and made a quick phone call, taking a long drink of cold water from a bottle. "Something real bad has happened by the airport," he said. Rodriguez said that she and her neighbors in the small subdivision between Telephone Road and Almeda Genoa knew Johnson well and that he was well-liked. "He would always wave and smile when he saw me," Rodriguez said. "He was a real nice guy. All he was trying to do was enforce the rules." Rodriguez said Johnson stopped her once for speeding when the speed limit was lowered on Telephone Road. She said he politely asked her to slow down and did not ticket her. "He was just so very nice," she said. "He was not ever mean. It just breaks my heart. I feel so very bad for his wife. He got up and went to work this morning, and this is what happened. This is what happened to one of the people who protects us, who truly took care of us." Johnson graduated from high school in Oakland, Calif., then enlisted in the Army, serving as an MP until he was honorably discharged in 1990. He served as a corrections officer for the Texas Department of Corrections (now the Texas Department of Criminal Justice) and as a Houston police jailer before attending the police academy and graduating in 1994. Johnson was assigned to the southeast division that year and to the southeast gang task force in 1996. While on the task force he received two Lifesaving Awards from the department and one Medal of Valor from the state. He was married to Houston police officer Joslyn Johnson. They have three daughters and two sons between the ages of 14 and 19..
Did You See Illegal Alien Kills COP In HOUSTON? Of course pro illegal will say he is innoncent - By BRIAN ROGERS and MIKE GLENN Copyright 2006 Houston Chronicle Harris County District Attorney Chuck Rosenthal said today that he will lead the prosecution of the man accused of killing Houston police Officer Rodney Johnson. Referring to it as "coming out of retirement,'' Rosenthal said he could not recall the last time he took part in prosecuting a case, but guessed that it has been two or three years. A judge, meanwhile, ordered this morning that Juan Leonardo Quintero remain in the County Jail without bail. Quintero, 32, is charged with capital murder in connection with the shooting of Johnson near Hobby Airport on Thursday afternoon. Johnson had stopped Quintero, a Mexican national, for a traffic violation and arrested him because he had no identification. Police said Johnson failed to detect that Quintero had a pistol hidden in his clothing. Quintero, although handcuffed, managed to get his hands in front of him, pull the gun and kill Johnson while locked in the backseat cage of the officer's patrol car, investigators said. Rosenthal said this is a "bizarre'' case because Quintero is accused of killing Johnson even though Quintero was locked in the back of the car and could not escape. In this morning's hearing, state District Judge Joan Campbell granted a defense request for funds for such expenses as hiring an investigator. Rosenthal said he believes Quintero could come to trial sometime next spring. The next step in the case will be another court hearing in 15 days, he said, and the case could go to a county grand jury shortly after that. The arrest of Quintero has renewed debate over the enforcement of immigration laws and HPD's policy of not questioning suspects about their residency. Houston Police Chief Harold Hurtt appeared on ABC television's "Good Morning America," this morning where he accused the federal government of not properly securing the nation's borders. With 250,000 to 400,000 illegal immigrants believed to be living in the Houston area, Hurtt said the resources are not available for HPD officers to assume a greater role in immigration enforcement. "I would need another 2,500 officers," Hurtt said. Hurtt was interviewed for the ABC program from Charlotte, N.C., where he is attending a meeting of the Major Cities Chiefs Assocation that he heads. Quintero was deported as an illegal felon in 1999, following a charge of indecency with a child, HPD officials said. Court records show Quintero was given deferred adjudication in that case. His previous criminal record included an arrest for driving while intoxicated, for driving with a suspended licensed and for failing to stop and give information after an automobile accident, HPD officials said.
re aircraft Hobby? Hi Guys, Any pilots or controlers or anyone in the aviation buisness can tell me if what I would like to do is legal or not. A lot of you guys in this site know I am a genuine guy, I am Scottish but live in Essex England, I suffer from multiple disabilities, I love watching aircraft inflight and at airports. Now I am at home a lot now as I am very tired with my kidney failures treatment 3 times a week. I want to know if it is legal to search and find a web site and to watch aircraft navigating around the UK. Aircraft flying to and from All Londons airports fly virtually over my house, my home town where I live in Essex has a navigation beacon where a lot of aircraft passing over the UK pass straight over. In the summertime I sit outside my front garden watching all the planes, I love monotoring them with my radio and I have the aviation map of my area. Is it possible and legal to watch / monitor flights in and around the UK and my area. Jimmy From Essex
Choose boyfriend over kids? I have two kids ages 21 and 18, have been with boyfriend 16 years, the 21 year old does not live with me, but my boyfriend and daughter always bunt heads, so l left last spring but still see him and would like to move back in with him but he wants no part of my daughter, she can be a handfull at times, but she is still my daughter. I love this guy a great deal but do not like being put in the position of choosing and I should not be put in that position, I feel he is the grown up, I have to say that when they were young he never had much to do with them, always at the airport doing his hobby, he worked from 3-11pm so when the kids were out of school he was not home, but on his days off he went to the airport instead of taking time to bond with them and treating them as they were his kids, I am 43 and he is 55. Everytime I see him I am put on a guilt trip and should make her live with her dad. He wanted me to ask other woman what they would do? He never comes to see me I always goto him
Plane crash at Heathrow, BA flight interesting question? With the amount of people these days with camera/mobile phones and digital cameras why did nobody have any film of the plane actually coming into land. Am i right in thinking people go to the airport everyday as a hobby and watch flights come in and out. Also there is an observation point to watch aircraft. The BBC or Sky tv would have snapped up the chance to show such footage by an amature photographer. I think the fire stervice would have been the first to know of the pending situation so them rushing out would have bought it to peoples attention be for landing! (or did f/service only come out after landing)

Direct flights from D.C. to Houston? I will be travelling to Houston, TX from the D.C. area later this year. Which airlines fly direct from either National or Dulles to Intercontinental or Hobby? Which of the two Houston airports is better/easier to fly to? Do you recommend a particular airline over another?
Recreational Pilots License - Toronto, Canada? I live in Toronto, Canada. I want to take up flying, and would like the advice of people in the area who have taken the course ( I'm well over the required age ! and in good physical health ). What school offers the best quality training ? What was the final cost of the course ? I'm considering a Recreational Pilots course but wonder how difficult it will be to obtain a plane to fly once I've passed. Are there clubs that share the use of planes for this purpose ? Just wondering if this is a hobby that will prove too expensive to pursue. So far, I've located three flight centres...Toronto Airways out of Buttonville airport....Islandair out of Toronto Island Airport....and Brampton Flight Centre. The cost of the PPL is beyond my means, so the Recreational Permit will have to do for now. Also do you know which schools offer a discount "Discovery / Introductory" flight ? Any ideas ? Thanks for reading this.
